Flags lowered for “Dutch” VanKirk
NORTHUMBERLAND — Flags will be lowered Tuesday in honor of a revered local World War II veteran. Governor Tom Corbett is asking that all United States and Pennsylvania flags at the Capitol Complex and at Commonwealth facilities in Northumberland County be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of Captain Theodore “Dutch” VanKirk.
93-year-old VanKirk of Northumberland died this week. He was navigator of the Enola Gay during World War II. Corbett asks that flags remain at half-staff until sundown Tuesday, the day of VanKirk’s interment. All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in the tribute. (Codi Jade)
