Flags lowered for Peace Officers Memorial Day
HARRISBURG – If you see flags lowered at half-staff today, it’s in recognition of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Governor Tom Corbett ordered the flags at commonwealth facilities statewide to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the day, which was created by the U.S. Congress to honor the memory of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Private residences and businesses were also encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff. In 2012, five officers and a corrections officer were killed in the line of duty across the state.
