Flags to be lowered for fallen soldier
MILTON — Flags are to be lowered to half-staff Saturday for a fallen local soldier. Governor Tom Corbett has ordered all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags to be lowered at the Capitol Complex and at commonwealth facilities in Northumberland County. The initiative will honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Thomas A. Baysore, Jr. of Milton.
Baysore was killed September 26 in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. He joined the army in 2001 and earned numerous medals during his years of service. His deployment to Afghanistan was his fourth.
Flags are to remain at half-staff until sunset on Saturday. There will be services for Baysore Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Milton from 9:00a.m. to noon. Baysore will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
On Sunday, flags are to fly at half-staff in tribute to fallen firefighters. President Barack Obama has ordered the American flag to be flown at half-staff on the first Sunday in October in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. (Codi Jade)
