Former fire chief running for council
SUNBURY – A former Sunbury fire chief would like to be a member of Sunbury City Council. Dan Saxton, who recently retired from the Shikellamy School District after more than 25 years on the job, is running for Sunbury City Council.
Saxton said, “In attending some of the city council meetings and listening to some of the residents, the people seem to have lost confidence in their city government. At least a certain group of people and maybe not all. What I’d like to do is try and change that image that some people have of city government. I think there’s a lot of things that city government is doing well. I think there’s things that the city needs to improve upon. One of those things is to make sure the residents are confident in their city government.”
Saxton said one thing he is hoping to be a part of is continuing to rid the city of run down properties. He said, “I think the city is doing what they can in that respect right now. The city has obtained properties over the years and made some improvements, but I think we can improve the process by which we do that. I don’t know if it can be streamlined and made any quicker, but if it can, I’d like to see what we can do there.”
Saxton was a guest on WKOK’s Friday On The Mark program. You can listen to the interview online at www.wkok.com. (Ali Stevens)
