Former prison guard acquitted of theft is reinstated
SUNBURY – Former prison guard Shane Hoffman, who was acquitted of theft and related charges in July, has been reinstated by the Northumberland County Prison Board. The 40-year-old guard from Sunbury was accused of selling copper pipes from the prison for personal profit. Then he was found not guilty by a jury during a three-day trial in July. The Daily Item reports Hoffman will now receive up to $95,000 in back pay and has the option of getting his job back. The investigation started in February of 2009 and took about four years to proceed through the court system.
