Former Shamokin teacher faces drug charges

SHAMOKIN — A former Shamokin teacher and school board member is facing drug charges. The News Item reports 64-year-old Daniel Venn of Coal Township is charged with possession of a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy and was released on bail.

Venn is accused of obtaining cocaine from several people apprehended during a September drug raid. In November of 2012, a grand jury brought charges against several people for trafficking cocaine and heroin in the Northumberland County area. Court documents show Venn was one of the people who testified in front of the grand jury.

Venn was employed as an industrial arts teacher for 34 years in the Shamokin School District and retired in 2006. He was also a wrestling coach and a school board member from 2007 to 2011. (Ali Stevens)
