Free flu shots in Northumberland County
SUNBURY — As the cold weather continues, so too does the flu. While there are many places to receive a flu shot across the Valley, one place in Northumberland County is offering the shot for free.
NorthumberlandCountyStateHealthCenter, at 247 Pennsylvania Avenue in Sunbury, will be providing free flu shots on Monday. They will be taking appointments between 3:00 and 7:00p.m.
Local doctors have said the flu shot is the best line of defense for influenza. Dr. Michael Donegan the Medical Director of Emergency Services at EvangelicalCommunityHospital said the more people that are vaccinated; the less flu will be spread around.
Dr. Lisa Esolen, System Director, Infection Control for Geisinger Health System said, “It is absolutely not too late for people to get the flu shot. Even though the flu season has started early, it may not have quite hit the particular community. Sometimes it might come in a second wave as well, so we tell people to get the flu shot. It is not too late.”
