Fundraiser supports hungry kids at Shikellamy
SUNBURY – A new fundraising event called Goodstock will help support hungry kids in the Shikellamy School District. Eric Attinger is the organizer of Goodstock, which will take place on Saturday at Shikellamy High School.
Attinger said, “Goodstock is going to be a music event for the community. It’s a concert featuring a rapper and two rock bands. It’s benefitting Caring for Kids. We’re going to raise money and food and it’s free for everybody in the community to just have a good time and raise awareness for a good cause.”
Attinger said people are encouraged to bring food to the event, which will be provided to students who are in need. Caring for Kids provides students with a backpack of food over the weekends.
Attinger said, “Some of the kids would come in and were really tired because they were hungry. They would talk about how they were hungry on the weekends. We didn’t realize it was as big of a problem as it is until Phil Moyer at Chief Shikellamy recognized it at their school. They started helping out a couple of the kids who were coming in hungry and then we realized it was a bigger problem than usual. It has now spread to all of the buildings in the district.”
The Goodstock fundraiser is from 5 to 9 p.m. at Shikellamy High School and food and monetary donations will be collected. To find out more, you can find Goodstock on Facebook or contact Eric Attinger at 570-286-3872. (Ali Stevens)
