Furmano’s Foods lays off workers

NORTHUMBERLAND — A Northumberland based company has furlough 18 employees.  Furmano’s Foods announced the decision in a press release Tuesday, blaming the economy.

In a press release, Company President Chad Geise said, “We are deeply saddened to have to reduce our workforce and impact the lives of 18 families who have dedicated themselves to Furmano Foods.”

Furmano’s was founded in 1921 and has over 200 employees.  The company produces vegetable products.  Geise said, “Unfortunately, Furmano Foods is not immune to the current economic environment… We have been blessed to be in business for 92 years and are committed to growing our business in the Susquehanna Valley.”
