Good news for the Isle of Que boat launch
SELINSGROVE – The borough of Selinsgrove got some good news this week regarding the Isle of Que boat launch project. The Department of Environmental Protection has approved a submersible land license agreement that was needed for the project to proceed, since a portion of the launch is submerged in the river.
A lower level permit requirement is still pending from the DEP, but Selinsgrove Borough Manager Paul Williams is optimistic they will soon be able to seek bids for construction of the boat launch. The borough received a state grant to pay for the project, but the grant money hasn’t been used for 2 years, while the DEP permits were pending.
Once construction begins, the launch will be redesigned so it’s not as steep and new materials will be used to prevent water erosion from the waves hitting the ramp. The DEP this week extended the allocation of grant money through December of 2013, so the project can proceed without the borough losing their funding. (Ali Stevens)
