Govenor’s “Ill Concieved” Proposal Impacts Lewisburg Area School District

LEWISBURG–

Governor Tom Corbett’s budget proposal will impact the Lewisburg Area School District. Staffing and tax rates will be two of the areas impacted according to Superintendent Dr. Mark DiRocco.  Dr. Mark DiRocco reacted to  the governor’s proposed budget stating, “ I think the governor’s proposal is ill conceived. It doesn’t seem to make much sense.”

The school board last night approved the preliminary budget of $29.4 million for the 2013-2014 school year. This will be the third year that the Lewisburg Area School District is operating at a deficit and Superintendent DiRocco was skeptical that the governor’s proposal would bring the help it promised. One way the Lewisburg Area School District is attempting to cut costs is by not replacing two of the nine teachers retiring this year.
