Hearing regarding county lawsuit is postponed
SUNBURY – The Northumberland County Commissioners were due in court this morning regarding a lawsuit filed by four county row officers, but the hearing was delayed. The injunction hearing will decide whether the row officers who had their salaries slashed will remain at the current salary until going to trial.
The plaintiffs asked for and received a continuance, stating they had a conflict and not all of the plaintiffs could appear. They were reportedly given less than 24- hours’ notice of the hearing. The 54-page lawsuit was filed by Register and Recorder Mary Zimmerman, Coroner James Kelley, Treasurer Kevin Gilroy and Sheriff Chad Reiner, who all had their salaries dramatically cut following a vote by Commissioners Vinny Clausi and Stephen Bridy.
The hearing has been rescheduled for next Friday at 9:15 a.m. before a judge from the State College area, since all three Northumberland County judges have recused themselves from the case. (Ali Stevens)
