Helping Valley families with the Needy Family Fund
UNDATED – The holiday season is upon us and it is time once again for the Needy Family Fund. It is a joint effort between the Sunbury and Milton Salvation Armies, Susquehanna Bank, the Daily Item and the radio stations of Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation.
Each year, the Salvation Army provides food, toys and clothes to families in need throughout The Valley says Major Sharon Cupp of the Sunbury Salvation Army. “We have already taken two weeks of applications and we will continue to try to fill all of the needs. Hopefully each child will have a brighter Christmas and families will be able to eat that day because of generous donations to the Needy Family Fund.”
Major Sheryl Hershey of the Milton Salvation Army says they help local people year round, but it is special to help folks during the holiday season and cold weather. “There are many children and families in the community that go without Christmas. We are about serving those families so that they have something.”
Each day through Christmas, the Daily Item and WKOK will feature the story of a local family who will benefit from the Needy Family Fund. The goal this year for the Needy Family Fund is $75,000. You can make a donation at any branch of Susquehanna Bank and for more information go to wkok.com. (Sara Bartlett)
