Honoring veterans with banners in Sunbury

SUNBURY – The project is progressing which will thank veterans by hanging banners in Sunbury.  Kristin McLaughlin is Elm Street Manager in Sunbury.  She says the banners are similar to ones people may have seen in Lock Haven or Williamsport.

The banners measure 18 by 36 inches and show a veteran’s name, photo, their era of service, and branch of service.  The banners will hang downtown on Front Street and Market Street.  The goal is to get the banners up for an unveiling ceremony on May 5th and they will stay up until Veteran’s Day.  Sunbury Revitalization Incorporated will then clean the banners and return them to the families, so they can have it as a keepsake.

Sponsoring a banner is $200 and supports SRI. You can hear more about the veterans banners from WKOK’s Monday On The Mark program online at www.wkok.com.  McGlaughlin says for those who can’t afford a $200 banner, they are also collecting photos of area veterans for a collage.  (Ali Stevens)
