Hot dog eating contest returns to Sunbury
SUNBURY — The Sunbury River Festival is full of unique events, one of which is a mouthful. The hot dog eating contest returns this year. Bob Snyder, owner of The Squeeze-In, said he is proud to supply the dogs for the fun activity.
“The hot dog eating contest is all about family fun, wholesome entertainment, and an American tradition,” he said. “We just had a great time the last few years, and this year we’d really like to have some fun! We’d love to have you there. It should be a lot of fun to watch.”
Snyder said there is double the entertainment this year. “We have two separate competitions. The one is with our employee Jasmine. She’s got a challenge to see who could beat her. She is a pretty good eater, so she is pretty excited and up to the task,” Snyder said. “The other really exciting one is Stephen Mazzeo, Chief of Sunbury Police Department. He’s laid down the gauntlet and is looking for people to challenge him and see if they can beat him.”
The event will take place on Friday night, August 16 at 6:00p.m. in front of main stage. Contestants will have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs — equipped with buns — as they can. If you are interested in competing, you can sign up at The Squeeze-In restaurant in Sunbury. They are looking for 7 competitors for each challenge.
