Union County vandalized…twice

NEW COLUMBIA – In Union County, a church was burglarized, and vandalized, twice this week. Sometime overnight both Tuesday and again Wednesday night, the God’s Missionary Church on Ridge Road in New Columbia was hit hard by vandals.

Pastor Matthew Ellison describes what he found Wednesday morning, “They broke through the back door. Flowers and flags, and books were spewed all over the place. (I) came downstairs and realized they had written some derogatory remarks on our chalkboards and dumped water over our copier and our laptops. They urinated on all the stuff in my office.”

State police investigated that incident and when Pastor Ellison arrived again Thursday, more vandalism had taken place overnight. Ellison said, “We cleaned up, had church last evening, went home and came in to find this morning they had busted through the ceiling. They climbed through the ceiling, climbed over into by study, and basically ransacked it. They urinated on everything again and this time they left some notes here and there.”

Pastor Ellison believes nothing was stolen during the break-ins. He says they have stepped up security at the church in the meantime and hope for the best in the days ahead. Pastor Ellison says based on what he has seen, the vandals are amateurish and they need to get their lives straightened out. Anyone with information on the vandalism and break-ins is asked to call state police at Milton. (Ali Stevens)
