Jailed Mifflinburg mom sues former employer

MIFFLINBURG — The Mifflinburg woman who attempted to hire a hit-man to kill her child’s father, is now suing her former employer.   According to The Daily Item, Christine Smith is seeking lost wages, punitive damages and attorney fees from U.S. Gypsum Corporation.  Smith says the company fired her because of the conviction she had disclosed before being hired.

Smith plead guilty to aggravated assault in 2010 for attempting to hire an undercover state trooper to kill her child’s father in 2008.  She was sentenced in Northumberland County Court to 2 to 17 1/2 years in state prison.

Smith filed a court complaint claiming U.S. Gypsum Corporation violated the Federal Civil Rights Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.  She says the company has many male employees with criminal records, and a job evaluation said she exceeded job expectations.   The court complaint was filed in U.S. Middle District Court on August 9.  (Codi Jade)
