Jailhouse interview part of Barbour hearing
SUNBURY — Three portions of an audio recording were played today in Northumberland County Court during a pre-trial hearing of accused killer 19-year-old Miranda Barbour. The recordings were from her jailhouse interview with Daily Item reporter Francis Scarcella. During the brief clips, Barbour was heard saying, “It got out of control,” regarding the night she and her husband 22-year-old Elytte Barbour allegedly killed 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara of Port Trevorton.
Testifying today was Brian Wheary of the Northumberland County Prison, who said he gave the audio recording to Sunbury Police following the interview. Also Sunbury Police officer Travis Bremigen testified that he and Police Chief Stephen Mazzeo listened to the interview before placing it into evidence. Deborah Zaleskie, correctional officer at the Northumberland County Prison, also testified saying she was in the room taking notes during the conversation between Scarcella and Barbour. She said by the end of the hour-long visit she was “very sick to my stomach about what I heard. I will never forget it.”
This pre-trial motion is a habeus corpus, to determine if there is sufficient evidence to hold up the charges against Barbour. (Sara Bartlett)
