Kulpmont police chief retires
KULPMONT – The Kulpmont borough police chief has resigned. The News Item reports borough council accepted the retirement of Richard Wilson III on a 6-0 vote during a special meeting with council members.
Wilson was hired by Kulpmont as a part time officer in 2007 and was promoted to chief in 2008. The police force was placed out of service for a couple of days last week because a previous police liability insurance carrier announced it was not renewing the borough’s policy. Officers were back on the job two days later when a new policy was found, but with a significantly higher premium.
The police chief resigning is expected to save the borough insurance costs. Patrolman Michael Pitcavage has been named officer in charge of the department until further notice. (Ali Stevens)
