Legislators react to budget address

pa capitalHARRISBURG — Two local legislators say Governor Tom Corbett’s budget address Tuesday came with little surprises.  State Representative Lynda Schlegal-Culver (R-108, Sunbury) says she was pleased with a lot of the proposed additional funding.  “It was a win for me to see more funds going into early learning investments,” says Culver, “I think we all agree that transportation, pensions and many of the other issues will impact the entire state.”

State Representative Kurt Masser (R-107, Elysburg) says a bright spot in the proposed budget for him deals with the physically and mentally disabled.  “They are sending us more money to get some of the waiting lists addressed and serving that population.  That was a big concern of mine and I hope that remains in the final budget.”

The proposed budget increases overall state spending to $28.4 billion and does not increase sales or personal income tax. (Sara Bartlett)
