Libraries For Health Expo is Saturday

LEWISBURG – The Union County Library System is hosting their 2nd annual Libraries for Health Expo on Saturday. Coni Marie Sheridan organizes the event.

Sheridan said, “It’s a standard health fair with a lot of fun things. There will be information, demonstrations, activities for kids and health screenings.”

Other contributors to the health expo include Geisinger Health Systems, the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, the Penn State Cooperative Extension and Evangelical Community Hospital. Linda Homa of the Union County Library System explains how the expo idea took shape.

She said, “In 2010, we were fortunate to get a library services technology grant for health materials. As part of that grant, we took a look at the fact that people get their information from many sources now, not just print. We decided to expand our health collection to include a lot of DVD’s and also, programs, because a lot of people get information face-to-face these days.”

The expo is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Lewisburg Library in Brookpark Farm. The public is encouraged to attend the free event. (Ali Stevens)
