Video HERE! Local veterans speak out about service
NORTHUMBERLAND – In advance of a WWII-style dance in Selinsgrove this month, WKOK spoke with a number of local veterans who took us back to the time they served. We spoke with eleven veterans from all branches of service.

Bill Reese enlisted in the Navy when he came out of high school. “We went in to Okinawa April 1, 1945. It was Easter Sunday back home,” says Reese. “We picked up a bunch of Army boys in Panama and most of those boys never came back.”
Many of the veterans, like Lloyd Bailey, also a sailor in 1954, talked about the sense of brotherhood they had with others serving. “You didn’t know them before, but you soon got to know everyone on the ship. They were your brothers and you were concerned about their health.”
Everyone is invited to the Step Back in Time WWII hangar dance hosted by the SUN Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. The dance is Friday, September 20 at 7:00p.m. at Heritage Aviation. (Sara Bartlett)
