LUNAFEST fundraiser for Girls on the Run
LEWISBURG — A national film festival is coming to Lewisburg to help raise money for Girls on the Run of the Greater Susquehanna Valley. Susie Decker helped organize the event that will be held at the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg, which is a series of short films.
Decker said, “It’s a mini-film festival of documentary shorts and they are all created by women and they are all about women’s issues and girls issues. This particular series has nine short films in it.”
Cheryl Stumpf is executive director of Girls on the Run and says this is an important fundraiser for them. She said, “We are serving more and more girls who are unable to afford the program. We probably have about 50 percent of our girls on full or partial scholarship this season. And, not only that, we will pay for running shoes if they can’t afford them. All of the money goes back into the program, whether it’s paying for coach boxes, liability insurance or running shoes.”
Eight-five percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run of the Greater Susquehanna Valley and 15 percent goes to LUNA’s primary cause partner, the Breast Cancer Fund. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 2 with live music by Johanna starting at 6:30 and the films starting at 7 p.m. You can get your tickets online at www.girlsontherunsusquehannavalley.org and click on events.
