Man charged with fatal stabbing remains jailed
MIDDLEBURG – A Mifflinburg man charged with third-degree murder for a fatal stabbing in Snyder County will remain behind bars pending a retrial in February. The Daily Item reports bail has been denied for 20-year-old Seth Hornberger.
Snyder-Union President Judge Mike Sholley denied bail Thursday, citing Hornberger’s prior problems obeying house-arrest rules. Hornberger was found guilty by a Snyder County jury in the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Alan Martin of Winfield in March of 2011. Sentencing was postponed pending an appeal and a few months later, Sholley granted Hornberger a new trial, stating the jury was given faulty instructions.
Hornberger claims the stabbing was self-defense and that he was trying to help a friend who was being assaulted by Martin. A new trial is set for February. (Ali Stevens)
