McQueary testifies in hearing on scandal cover-up
HARRISBURG — Former Penn State Assistant Coach Mike McQueary has testified this morning about what coach Joe Paterno told him the morning Paterno was fired as Penn State’s head coach. The Patriot News reports McQueary testified this morning during a preliminary hearing for former Penn State President Graham Spanier, former University vice-president Gary Schultz and former Athletic Director Tim Curley.
McQueary said Paterno gave him one last piece of advice, saying “Don’t worry about me. They’re going to try to scapegoat you. Trust your lawyers….Don’t trust Old Main. Old Main screwed it up.” McQueary also said Paterno came to him after Jerry Sandusky’s arrest and said, “The University is going to come down hard on you.” McQueary claims he saw Sandusky molesting a boy in a Penn State football locker room in February of 2001.
Spanier, Curley and Schultz are charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and other counts for allegedly trying to cover up the abuse committed by former coach Jerry Sandusky. A preliminary hearing continues today in Harrisburg to determine if the men should go to trial for the charges against them. (Ali Stevens)
