Mifflinburg will host Girls on the Run 5K
MIFFLINBURG – For the first time in the race’s history, the Girls on the Run 5K race will take place in Mifflinburg. The race is this Saturday at Mifflinburg Community Park. Meredith McLean is race coordinator for Girls on the Run.
She said, “We are anticipating over 600 runners. It’s going to be held at 10 a.m. The starting line is in Mifflinburg Community Park. If you haven’t registered, you can register starting at 8 a.m. It’s going to go through the town of Mifflinburg and come back on the Rail Trail for a great finish.”
McLean says the race is unique. “You are going to be able to spray paint your hair and get tattoos. We do a fun Zumba warm-up. It’s an overwhelming atmosphere because the girls are just very excited to start this race.”
The Girls on the Run 5K race is part of the Girls on the Run program for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls in school districts in Northumberland, Snyder , Union and Montour Counties. The girls learn about topics such as body image, community service, bullying and self-esteem while training for a 5K race. You can register the day of the race starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The public is encouraged to run the race along with the girls participating in the program. (Ali Stevens)
