Man sentenced for Dalmatia woman’s death

SUNBURY – A Millersburg man was sentenced this week to 18-months to seven years in prison for the death of a 19-year-old Dalmatia woman in April of 2010. The Patriot News reports 32-year-old Thomas Schoor was found guilty April 15th in a non-jury trial for his role in the death of Bethany Harris.

The woman jumped from Schoor’s vehicle and hit her head and she died several hours later. Harris’s boyfriend, Joel Nies of Northumberland, who was in the back seat of the car with her, testified Harris pleaded with Schoor to slow down or stop driving after he struck an embankment.

Harris jumped from the vehicle near the intersection of McKees Road and Lenker Lane in Lower Mahanoy Township. Schoor initially claimed he was not driving the vehicle and said Jessica Beers of Millersburg was driving. She admitted to police she was a front seat passenger and not the driver. (Ali Stevens)
