Selinsgrove okays new Weis Markets
SELINSGROVE — Selinsgrove Borough Council voted to give Weis Markets ‘conditional approval’ for their new store along Route 522 in Selinsgrove. The new store will be located diagonally across the highway from their current location on Broad Street.
Selinsgrove borough manager Paul Williams said, “Borough Council granted them permission to commence limited site work. That will include and be limited to earth moving activities, footer of the building, a foundation for the building, under slab plumbing and they are allowed to bring in some fill material to raise the elevation of the site.”
The final approval for the project is still conditional and Williams explained that if Weis is not in full compliance with the outstanding agreements that are still pending, by the next borough council meeting, all activity at the site must stop. That includes an easement agreement for a new driveway off of Route 522, a sewer agreement with Penn Township and the engineer needs a copy of the final plan.
Williams said with all the revisions made, they need to be clear what is happening at the site. He said the new store is 65-thousand-square-foot facility. It will also have a gas station on the site. (Ali Stevens/Lauren Koch)
