Needy Family Fund to hlep Sunbury woman

SUNBURY — Jennifer can’t say enough good things about the Salvation Army and its programs to help the less fortunate. One of those programs is the Needy Family Fund, sponsored each year by The Daily Item, Sunbury Broadcasting Corp. and Susquehanna Bank.

This year she has applied for the first time for a Christmas food basket. Jennifer and her husband, both 59, are having a tough time making ends meet. They live on his disability of $755 a month. Their monthly bills include $415 in rent for their Sunbury home, $220 for utilities and $43 for cable.

“We’ve never applied for a Christmas basket before,” she said. “This is my first time for Christmas.” “We’re grateful we can receive this,” she added. “The Salvation Army really helps people who are needy, who don’t have a lot of places to turn to for aid.” (Barb Ritchey)

Each year, The Daily Item, the Salvation Army of Milton and Sunbury, Susquehanna Bank and the radio stations of Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation team up to raise money for families in need. More details are posted at

The Salvation Army distributes toys, food, clothing, and gifts to eligible families. You are asked to please consider a generous contribution to the Needy Family Fund. Donations can be dropped off at any branch of the Susquehanna Bank.  .
