New cardiac rehab center helps many
LEWISBURG – The new cardiac rehabilitation center at Evangelical Community Hospital is serving patients all across the Valley in a number of ways. Vicki Crebs is a registered nurse and coordinator of cardiac rehab at the facility. She says getting certain screenings done such as cholesterol and blood pressure tests can make a big difference.
Crebs said, “That’s why it is sometimes referred to as the silent killer. With heart disease, you often don’t have symptoms when you are building up the plaque in your arteries.”
Crebs explained who is treated at their facility. She said, “They receive patients after some sort of heart event where heart disease is diagnosed. That would include coronary artery disease that has been stented or bypassed. In addition, patients with heart valve problems that have been repaired or surgically replaced. “At the cardiac rehab facility, they can also help treat patients who feel they are in danger of developing a heart condition if they receive a referral from a doctor.
Crebs said at the new facility they have so much more space that allows the patients to have more room in the gym. It also has allowed them to double the number of patients they can serve in the cardiac rehab facility.
