New game commissioner encourages public comment
HARRISBURG – A new game commissioner for the Central Susquehanna Valley region was appointed at the end of 2012 and is now encouraging residents to attend public hearings in 2013. Charles Fox of Troy is a graduate of Williamsport High School and Bucknell University and was appointed by Governor Tom Corbett as a Pennsylvania Game Commissioner for District 5, which includes Northumberland, Union, Montour and Columbia Counties.
Fox said, “The cornerstones of my involvement have mostly been with youth programs. I’m state coordinator for the NRA’s Youth Hunter Education Challenge. I also do the Youth Education Summit. When the governor had a Youth Advisory Council, I was one of the mentors. I guess being a game commissioner is something I always thought I would like to do.
The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners quarterly meeting is January 27th through the 29th and Fox says the public can get involved.
Fox said, “On that Sunday, public testimony is taken. People are given five minutes and they can express their views to the commission at that time. Anyone is welcome to do that and we are interested in hearing from everyone. Sometimes people think it’s only about deer, but it’s about a lot of things, because we are charged with all wildlife within the community and the state.”
