Northumberland County ‘4th’ incidents

SUNBURY — All’s well that ends well on the Susquehanna River at Sunbury after volunteers were called for a water rescue Thursday afternoon. The call went in around 6pm for a boat in distress on Lake Augusta. The boat was said to be at risk of going over the fabridam.

After emergency responders arrived, they towed the boat to saftey. Northumberland County 9-1-1 sent a half dozen fire and water rescue volunteer crews to that incident.

Earlier in the day in Northumberland County, the county coroner James Kelley said a man from New York state died in a stripping pit pond in Mount Carmel Township. Benjamin Taus of New York drown after jumping in the flooded strip mine. The coroner said his death was an accident.
