Northumberland County salary lawsuit filed

SUNBURY — The awaited civil lawsuit by four Northumberland County row officers with slashed salaries has been filed Tuesday.  The suit was expected early last week, but paperwork wasn’t filed until today in Northumberland County court.  According to The News Item, the suit claims the reductions were made on an unequal basis and violated their First Amendment right to seek office.

The suit was filed against the county by Register and Recorder Mary Zimmerman, Coroner James Kelley, Treasurer Kevin Gilroy and Sheriff Chad Reiner.  The suit seeks declaratory relief, preliminary and permanent injunctive relief preventing the salary decreases from going into effect January 1.  (Codi Jade)
