One victim identified in double fatal
RIVERSIDE — We now know the identity of one of the victims of last week’s double fatal fiery crash. The accident happened in Rush Township on August 26. According to Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley, the victim has been identified as 46-year-old James L. Connelly of Danville.
Connelly and another occupant were killed around 11:30a.m. August 26, when their vehicle caught fire after a crash on a Riverside area road. The other male victim has not yet been identified.
Connelly’s cause of death is considered an accident. According to Kelley, his death was attributed to “Carbon Monoxide poisoning with 4th degree burns, due to conflagration, due to a motor-vehicle accident.”
Kelley said Connelly’s identity was established through antemortem and postmortem comparisons, descriptions of an upper dental plate and fragments of tattoos and specific jewelry items. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on August 26.
Kelley says they will not be able to identify the second victim until test results from blood and deep-tissue samples are returned for comparative DNA Testing. Those results may not be available for 8 weeks.
The investigation into the crash continues. Kelley said at this time they have not determine which victim was operating the vehicle. (Codi Jade)
