Only one candidate for Mayor in Selinsgrove
SELINSGROVE – There is only one declared candidate for Mayor in Selinsgrove. Republican voters in Selinsgrove will see the name Vincent Stoops on their ballot. Stoops is a Selinsgrove native, in the Marine Corps Reserves and a student at Bloomsburg University. He is also active in the community.
Stoops said, “I sit on the Selinsgrove Parks and Recreation Board and the Selinsgrove Projects Incorporated Board. I am also the commander of the American Legion Post 25 in Selinsgrove.”
Stoops says he has been working with Selinsgrove Borough Council on a number of things feels good about that. He said, “I’ve had a good relationship working with borough council so far on all the projects I have worked on. I think that’s a dialogue that has been healthy so far and there is no reason to think that will change at all.”
If elected, Stoops says he wants to approach the Mayor position the way current Mayor Sean Christine does, serving as an “ambassador” for Selinsgrove. Stoops wants to market Selinsgrove to potential employers and people who might bring their business to the borough. He also wants to continue plans that Mayor Christine has put together for a Selinsgrove Community Center at the Weis Markets store on Broad Street, which will be vacated once the new store is built.
