Penn State Extension offers healthy programs in our area
UNDATED — The Penn State Extension is offering some programs in the upcoming year to promote healthful living.
Registered Dietician Lynn James says Dining With Diabetes is a four-session program that includes meal planning, testing blood sugar, tips for exercising and food demonstrations. “It is estimated that 872,000 Pennsylvanians, or 10%, have Type 2 Diabetes and 25% have not been diagnosed. It is growing unfortunately and we are seeing it in our youth too because of childhood obesity.
James says they also offer courses that deal with proper and safe food handling. “We have a food safety certification program, which is for people that have their food license. We also have a program called Cooking For Crowds, which is a session for volunteer cooks.”
A Cooking For Crowds program is coming up January 14 in Kreamer and there is a Dining With Diabetes session January 17 in Beaver Springs. For a schedule and more information go to extention.psu.edu. (Sara Bartlett)
