Penn State settlements total $60m

STATE COLLEGE — A Penn State trustee says $60 million in tentative settlements have been reached so far in the civil suits filed against the university. The suits were filed by men who say they were sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky. The approximetly 30 men claim to have been sexually abused by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Williamsport attorney Cliff Rieders, who is an occasional guest on WKOK’s On The Mark program, and who represents one of the plaintiff’s in the case, said he can’t say anything about the proposed settlement. He did say, “We have moved toward an settlement which has compensation of an economic and a non-economic nature. We have also proposed that the non-economic aspects of the settlement be made open to the public.”

While he would not comment on the non-economic compensation, other attorney’s in the case have said they sought educational opportunities, and more university measures to prevent future abuse.
