Philadelphia area congresswoman looking to be next governor of PA
UNDATED — A U.S. Congresswoman in the Philadelphia area wants to be the next governor of Pennsylvania.
Allyson Schwartz (D-13, Philadelphia) is one of the announced democratic candidates who will be running in the May primary for governor. “I’m running because, like many Pennsylvanians, I think that Governor Tom Corbett has failed in so many ways to keep Pennsylvania great, to build economic opportunity, to educate our kids and to make sure we have the infrastructure and future that all of us hope for, for ourselves, our kids and our communities.”
Schwartz says she prides herself in getting things done in a bipartisan way. She is known as one of the leaders who created the Children’s Health Insurance Program in Pennsylvania. “Hundreds of thousands of kids across the state have benefitted by having health coverage throughout their childhood. It was a big, bold idea that we got done and then actually became a national model for the Clinton administration. Now, 11 million children in this nation have health coverage and we started that in Pennsylvania.”
