Police: At least one suspect in Sunbury homicide
SUNBURY — Sunbury Police say they have identified at least one suspect in connection with a homicide in the city. “We have over half the police department working on this right now running down any leads. We are asking the public to contact us if they have any information,” says Sunbury Police Chief Stephen Mazzeo.
42-year-old Troy LaFerrara of Port Trevorton was stabbed several times Monday and his body was found Tuesday morning outside in the 200 block of Catawissa Avenue. Mazzeo talked with WKOK’s Mark Lawrence on On The Mark Thursday morning, saying the public is not in great danger.
“As far as we can tell I can say that is probably correct,” says Mazzeo. “But, I will put a caveat on that because at this point we have not arrested the involved party or parties. The public should always be aware that the world we live in has changed a great deal in the past several decades and even our relatively happy Central Susquehanna Valley has its share of negative influences. But, we do have at least one suspect.”
Mazzeo says they located LaFerrara’s black Chevy pick-up truck Wednesday in the Susquehanna Valley Mall parking lot. LaFerrara was a Port Trevorton resident, but also owned a home in Sunbury, not far from where his body was found. He was a member of the Union-Chapman Township Regional Authority. Police ask anyone with information to call them at 570-988-4539. (Sara Bartlett)
