Public invited to anti-tire burner meeting
UNDATED – A group against the tire burner coming to White Deer Township will hold their first meeting of the new year.
Reverend Leah Schade says the emphasis of this meeting will be a new letter writing campaign. “The letter is to pressure National Gypsum to end the partnership with En-Tire Logistics so that they can remain a positive corporate citizen in our community. We are hoping we have a good turnout. We will have computers to write letters and samples of letters.”
Schade says the tire burner would bring with it significant health risks that outweigh any positives the facility would offer. “There are some people that believe a tire burner would be a good thing for the community because it would bring in jobs. However, the company has stated it would only be 35 jobs and we do not know if those are even local jobs. We don’t feel the tradeoff of the endangerment of the health of the community is worth the jobs.”
All are invited to the meeting Tuesday at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Lewisburg. The meeting begins at 6:30p.m. (Sara Bartlett)
