Raise the Region to help local nonprofits
UNDATED — The second annual Raise the Region is coming up in March. The online fundraising event is a 30-hour push to help local non-profits throughout The Valley.
Glenn Smith is director of strategic philanthropy at the First Community Foundation Partnership, which hosts the event. “This is really a collective effort. We want to promote the work that our community non-profits are doing and we also want to promote philanthropy and charitable giving. Raise the Region is a great way for everyone to come together and have the community support nonprofits.”
Raise the Region will take place March 12 and 13, but Smith says now is the time for nonprofits to apply. Nonprofits have to be a 501c3 public nonprofit organization in good standing with the IRS, they have to complete the application by February 21 and they have to primarily serve Northumberland, Snyder, Union, Montour, Columbia or Lycoming Counties.
Last year, Raise the Region gave nearly $835,000 to over 160 local nonprofits. Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships help sponsor the event by giving $125,000 to stretch donations even further throughout The Valley. (Sara Bartlett)
