Red Cross accepting hero applications

LEWISBURG — Do you know a hero?  If so, the time has come to reward them for their heroic services.  The SUN Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is welcoming nominations for their 7th Annual Heroes Breakfast.

Anne Smith said it is important to recognize and honor those individuals, as well as inspire others to emulate this behavior.

She said, “There are all kinds of people in all walks of life doing more than they have to, and those are the kind of people we are trying to find and trying to say thank you to.”

So who can nominate a hero?  Anne Smith explained that nominations can come from anyone.  She said, “Families nominate people.  People at work nominate fellow employees.  We have youth volunteers who are nominated for awards.  Even animals. Last year we had a dog who was a hero for his service in prisons and hospitals.  There are all kinds of categories.”

The 7th Annual Heroes Breakfast will be held Friday, March 22 at 7:30a.m. at the Country Cupboard Restaurant in Lewisburg.  This year’s awards will also feature a video presentation.  If you would like to nominate a hero, you can acquire a nomination form by calling the Red Cross office at 524-0400, extension 1602.  Nominations are open until January 30.  (Codi Jade)
