Report: WNEP will be purchased by Tribune
UNDATED – It’s being reported today that Tribune Co., which publishes the Morning Call newspaper in Allentown, is purchasing 19 television stations from Local TV Holdings LLC, including WNEP of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Reuters reports the purchase is $2.73-billion and would make Tribune the largest TV station owner in the United States.
Tribute currently has 23 television stations and publishes the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Baltimore Sun, along with five other papers. They emerged from bankruptcy protection in December. (Ali Stevens)
