Home gutted by fire in Shamokin

SHAMOKIN – One home was gutted and an adjoining home was damaged following a fire this morning in Shamokin.  Jason Zimmerman is Deputy Fire Chief for Shamokin and tells us the fire was at 620 and 622 West Gowen Street and started just before 4 a.m.

They believe the fire started in the basement and spread, but the cause is still under investigation.  The fire is not suspicious.  620 West Gowen was completely gutted, while 622 Gowen sustained moderate fire and water damage.  Zimmerman tells us they don’t yet know who owns the home and no one was at home at the time of the fire.  622 is a vacant home.  No injuries were reported and a damage estimate is not yet available.  (Ali Stevens)
