Retro dance to benefit Red Cross
SELINSGROVE — A fun and unique fundraiser is coming to Selinsgrove Friday. The Step Back in Time hangar dance will honor veterans and support the American Red Cross.
Tom Szulanczyk of the SUN Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, said the dance will be fun for all. “The theme of the dance is 1940′s. It’s similar to a USO style dance,” he said. “We have folks that will actually wear period outfits. There will be folks attending wearing military uniforms from World War II. We have some cigarette girls that will be selling candy cigar rates, and a 16-peice band.”
Anne Smith, also of the SUN Area Red Cross, hopes to have a large crowd. “Come to the dance on the 20th,” she said. “The food will be fantastic from Elizabeth’s, an American Bistro. She came up with little meatloaf sandwiches, mini submarines and all kinds of great food.”
Szulanczyk says the hanger dance is a very important fundraiser for their organization. “The Red Cross survives only on the donations and contributions and support of the community that we serve, so we do rely on folks attending and supporting us through buying tickets, buying plane rides and making donations. With the donations we’ll be able to continue our programs, one of which is the service to the armed forces.”
Tickets for the dance are $35 a person, and include food, open bar and live music. The event starts at 7:00p.m. Friday at Penn Valley Airport in Selinsgrove. There will be swing dance lessons before hand at 6:00p.m. Plane rides can also be purchased during the dance to support the Red Cross. For more information and to buy tickets, call 570-524-0400.
