UPDATE: Route 147 now open following rock slide

SUNBURY — A rock slide blocked traffic for hours Monday.  The rock slide was at the intersection of Route 147 and Brush Valley Road outside Sunbury in Upper Augusta Township. Emergency dispatchers say a significant amount of rocks fell off the side of the mountain and onto the highway.


Route 147 was closed for around 7 hours between Brush Valley Road in Upper Augusta Township. PennDOT personnel were on the scene and local fire police were directing traffic.  A detour started at Market Street in the City of Sunbury. The slide occured around 9:00a.m. and the road was not opened until around 4:00p.m. Monday afternoon.
