Route 11 Double fatal crash Friday

Details on the tragic accident Friday in Point Township

NORTHUMBERLAND — Two people were killed, and two others injured, in a head-on collision on Route 11 in Point Township, Friday morning. Killed were 60-year-old Jeffrey Robinson of Northumberland and 85-year-old Faye M. Kieffer of Dornsife.

Robinson died at Geisinger Medical Center, Kieffer was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Ridge Road. In critical condition at Geisinger is Kieffer’s husband Derl. No name is available for the fourth person who sustained minor injuries. Additional details are expected Saturday.

The crash happened on around 11:30a.m., Point Township police Chief Josh VanKirk said a southbound van, driven by Robinson, crossed the center turn lane and hit the northbound Kieffer auto head on. A third vehicle was also involved. Robinson’s van ended up on its side on nearby railroad tracks. The other two autos stayed on the highway.

Kieffer was the front seat passenger in the vehicle struck head on. Her husband was driving. The highway was closed for several hours and PennDOT’s detour used Routes 45, 642 and 54. VanKirk said everyone in both vehicles was wearing seat belts. The accident is being investigated by the Point Township Police Department. (Codi Jade)
