DANVILLE – For some kids in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Christmas may be spent in a hospital bed, but that does not mean there is no Christmas cheer. With a little magic, Santa paid a visit.
The SantaCam uses technology for the kids to talk to the Jolly Old Elf himself says Mary Tiffin, PrayerNET administrator, who also plays the role as head elf to greet the children. “The SantaCam is a way that Geisinger can bring the wonder and joy of Christmas to the hospital. Some of our patients visit with Santa on an iPad and they can tell them their Christmas list.”
4-year-old Sienna of Bloomsburg has been in the hospital for eight days getting treatments for a heart defect. Her mother, Cherie Karas says she detected a small smile while being given a stuffed doll by the elves and talking to Santa. “I think it is neat that she grabbed for the doll to pick it up. That takes a lot of energy, so you can tell she is happy that Santa is thinking of her.”
This is the third year for SantaCam at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. Tiffin says it is a wonderful program to bring a little cheer to children during the holiday season. (Sara Bartlett)
