Search for chamber president to start local
SELINSGROVE — The new interim president of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce says he looks forward to working with the staff, making the transition a smooth one.
Jim Barbarich is a long-time board member and current board of directors’ chairman. He lives in Danville and is President and CEO of MC Federal Credit Union in Danville. “The board felt that it would be good to place me with this additional responsibility so we can have continuity in the plans we have set forth for the chamber.”
He became the interim president Monday after former president Charlie Ross announced his resignation. Ross, who came to The Valley from Western Maryland, had been president of the chamber since 2009. “It is something you do reluctantly,” says Ross. “It is a family issue and it did not come up all of a sudden, but the tipping point was very apparent and I had to make a decision about how I would use my time.”
Barbarich says the chamber’s board of director’s personnel committee will be launching a search for a new president. “We will be drafting out a job description focusing on what we think the needs are for The Valley. We are going to focus the search locally because we feel there is so much talent here that we could fulfill the position in our own backyard.” (Sara Bartlett)
