Selinsgrove bridge construction starts tomorrow

SELINSGROVE — Preparation for the Route 522 green bridge project is underway, a day before construction is set to begin.  Starting Wednesday, the steel bridge over Penns Creek will be getting a facelift.

PennDOT’s Rick Mason explained the process.  He said, “They’ll be making structural steel repairs to the bridge and replacing the deck and sidewalk.  Pedestrian traffic access will be maintained through the project.  The work will be done in half-width construction.”

Mason said there will be some traffic delays throughout the construction process.  “The contractor will implement the detour for northbound traffic only,” he said.  “Southbound traffic will continue to use the bridge through the project.”

The prime contractor for the 1.9 million dollar rehabilitation project is Susquehanna Supply Company.  Tomorrow, they will set up traffic control.  The detour for northbound traffic, coming from Shamokin Dam going into Selinsgrove, will be in place through August 21.  There may be some traffic inconveniences today as crews prepare for the project.  (Codi Jade)
